Privacy Policy
Which data does FileSmelt store about the files I upload?
With every upload the following data is stored in addition to the actual file:
- Checksum of the uploaded file
- IP address of the computer from which the upload is started
- Time of the upload
- To which account the file is supposed to be attached (If applicable)
- ID3 Tags (If applicable)
Will FileSmelt pass information about uploaders on to third parties?
If we are legaly obliged to turn over information about the origin of a file, we will fullfill that obligation. The legal circumstances will be evaluated individually in each case. Without a legal basis, no information will be given to third parties.
How does FileSmelt monitor the files I offer?
Data privacy is an important integral part of the contract. That is why it is important for us to let you know what may and may not happen to your files.
Nobody can access your files without knowledge of the complete download link. This does also apply to FileSmelt employees. There is no software that will scan your files for certain patterns or the like. However, a checksum of your file may be taken and that checksum may be added to a blacklist if your file is deemed illegal in order to prevent that file from being uploaded again.
As you can see, you can safely store even your accounting information on our servers. As long as you don't pass on the download link, your files will neither be downloaded nor viewed by anyone.
Will I be able to tell who is downloading my files?
Data regarding what users download uploaded files is kept, but is not freely available to FileSmelt's users. This information is kept solely for legal and symantec purposes. In special cases it may be possible for a user to inquire on what users have downloaded their file, but this is not a standard feature at the current time.
Which part does this document play in relation to the complete agreement?
This document is a binding integral part of the contract for our customers as well as for FileSmelt. FileSmelt is bound to keep this integral part of the contract legally effective. Exceptions are applicable only if explicitly mentioned in this document.
Will FileSmelt communicate information about the files a user has downloaded to third parties?
To put it simply, no. The only identifiable data that is logged about users downloading files is their IP address. This will only be disclosed under legal implications, and at that point it is up to the user's internet service provider to provide the identity of the user that the IP address belongs to.
Will FileSmelt send any spam or sell my e-mail address or other data?
No. If and when e-mail addresses are recorded, they are stored in an encrypted volume inaccessible to untrusted employees or users. This data will be kept and used only for information regarding FileSmelt itself. We at FileSmelt despise spam, and we assume that you do as well.
